Totó la Momposina -

Mono Colorao

A new release with the Amazing voice of Totó la Momposina

A vibrant selection celebrating three generations of Totó’s musical legacy

We’re thrilled to share a sparkling addition to Totó la Momposina’s catalogue – a brand-new EP centred around the brilliant and previously unreleased recording of Mono Colorao.

This opening track is a treasure: a live studio recording from the year 2000 featuring three generations of the family performing together – Totó alongside her daughter Euridice and her granddaughter Maria del Mar, who at the time was just nine years old. During this period they toured Europe as an acapella trio, bringing the oral traditions of Colombia’s Caribbean coast directly to audiences with warmth and power.

Mono Colorao captures that magic – intimate, heartfelt and rhythmically alive.

Rediscovered Classics – lovingly remastered

This collection also brings fresh light to 4 beautifully remastered songs from Totó’s very first album created in Paris in 1984.

Two of them, La Verdolaga and Rosa have long since crossed borders to become worldwide classics – songs that introduced many listeners to Totó’s voice for the first time.

Alongside them are Tres Golpes and Mojana, less widely known pieces from the same early sessions and ready to be appreciated anew by longtime admirers and curious new listeners alike.

A carnival celebration

Closing the collection Garabatos is a unique live studio performance from 2001 - driven by pounding tambores and call-and-response vocals, this track is a rhythmic celebration deeply connected to Carnaval de Barranquilla, one of Colombia’s most iconic cultural festivals. This recording is only available on this EP.

An intimate window into Totó’s artistic journey

Across these recordings we hear Totó in two key creative moments - her international recording debut in the mid-80s, and her rich intergenerational collaboration two decades later. What binds these together is her profound commitment to traditional rhythms - cumbia, bullerengue, porro, and the voices of the Caribbean coast—passed down through the generations, carried through families and communities.

This release isn’t just a compilation; it’s a living archive of memory, tradition and musical inheritance.
